Overview

As a trial attorney for nearly 25 years, Jody Reich has tried and arbitrated hundreds of cases in state and federal court and the Washington Court of Appeals. Jody represents a wide variety of clients in estate planning, probate and business disputes.  She also dedicates a large part of her practice to protecting victims of serious injury caused by the negligence of others.  Her estate planning work focuses on all aspects of end of life planning, such as the creation of family trusts and estates.  She also assists clients through the probate process, represents interested parties in estate disputes when the arise, and helps companies with various business interests in the community.

Jody was born and raised in Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington with honors and Gonzaga University School of Law as a member of the Dean's List and the Gonzaga Law Review. She was named a "Rising Star" by Washington Law & Politics magazine before being honored each year as a Superlawyer starting in 2017 and is a current receipient for the year 2023-24.

Prior to her current practice, Jody was a partner at Betts Patterson Mines and served as a law clerk to Federal Judge Edward F. Shea for the Eastern District of Washington and for Judge James M. Murphy, Spokane Superior Court Judge (retired).

When she is not advocating for her clients, Jody spends her time raising her two boys with her husband Steve and serving on several community foundations that provide assistance to disadvantaged children and the larger community.  She served as a Board member for Ballard Little League for two years and was a member of the Board of Directors for Friends of Youth, an organization supporting homeless youth in Washington.  She actively volunteers for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and acts as an instructor and coach for Girls on the Run in Seattle. She is also a member of the Seattle Junior League which serves to improve the local community through volunteerism, training and leadership.

Case Studies

Eileen and Michael Richmond v. Rise Properties, LP dba Station at Mill Creek (2018); pre-litigation settlement for client of $125,000 when Eileen was injured falling on black ice in the parking lot of her apartment complex after management refused to make the premises safe for tenants' use after weeks of freezing weather.

O'Neill v. Cliff House Condominium Association (Spokane, 2019); pre-litigation settlement of $175,900 involving fall on black ice which resulted in a severe fracture of client's arm preventing her from supporting herself financially for more than a year.

Walker v. Dahlin, et al., Snohomish County, 19-2-11443-31; recovery of $752,500 for shooting victim with permanent injuries to right foot. Victim shot by a Springfield 9 mm pistol and sustained past and future wage loss of $100,000.

Weber v. Shawver, King County, 19-2-15381-4 KNT ; recovery of $500,000 for pedestrian severely injured by defendant’s inattentive driving in a Fred Meyer parking lot. Client underwent several reconstructive shoulder surgeries and suffered from post-concussive syndrome.

Park v. Strom, 22-2-06252-5 SEA; recovery of $185,000 for victim of rear-end motor vehicle collision on Highway 99 with $850 in property damage. The crash caused debilitating migraines, neck and back injuries, and post-concussion syndrome.

Overland v. Szoboszlay, 21-2-13525-7 SEA; recovery of $150,000 in motor vehicle collision with serious injuries requiring neck surgery. Client suffered a herniated disk to his L5-S1, with radiculopathy, and right-sided sciatica.

Jenkins v. Cascade Plaza, LLC; Cause No. 09-2-06151-1; largest verdict in Snohomish County for a fall case at that time for client who fell in snow and ice due to the negligence of her landlord, severely fracturing her ankle and experiencing a permanent injury.
